St John's Parish School's Visit
Students from St John’s Parish School in Mitcham recently attended a tour of the Whitehorse Art Space at Box Hill Town Hall.
Jacquie Nichols-Reeves, Senior Arts Officer, began the tour by taking the children up to the grand Council Chambers, which is overlooked by portraits of stern looking, impressively moustachioed past councillors.
Back in the art space, Jacquie told the children about Australian Impressionism and its historical connection with Box Hill. The children then participated in an art hunt, which involved studying the paintings in detail and reading the captions.
Local artist Sandy Angliss and gallery attendant Jane Perry then helped the children create thumbnail impressions of their favourite paintings.
If you are interested in finding out how your child or school can participate, please email Jacquie.Nichols-Revves@whitehorse.vic.gov.au or phone (03) 9262 6250.
