Then & Now: Ceramics from the Ceramics Victoria Inc and Whitehorse City Council Art Collection - 6 March - 14 April 2012

Ceramics

Then & Now profiles work by established potters represented in both the Ceramics Victoria Inc and City of Whitehorse Art collections. Ceramicist Sue McFarland is guest curator and she promises that viewers will be intrigued by the profound development in the work of some of our most recognised Victorian potters.

Age of Aquarius: the photography of Paul Cox - 19 April - 26 May 2012

This travelling exhibition of photographs from Monash Gallery of Art sheds light on this overlooked aspect of Paul Cox’s work. Cox, best known as an award winning filmmaker, taught photography at Prahran College in the 1970s where his students included Bill Henson. Screenings of Paul Cox’s early films will accompany the exhibition.


Ceramic Dog

All Creatures... From the City of Whitehorse Art Collection - 2 June - 31 July 2012

Young students from New Star Art School exhibit their creations alongside sculptural creatures from the Whitehorse Art Collection.   This exhibition aims to include participants from a multicultural background in the exhibition program and to make visitors appreciate all the creatures that exist in our fragile environment.

Invited Artist Program - 4 August - 1 September 2012

Whitehorse Art Space calls for expressions of interest from individual Artists living, working or studying in Whitehorse, to exhibit as part of the Art Space exhibition calendar. The Art Space welcomes a range of exhibition proposals in all media including ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking, jewellery, sculpture, photography or textiles.

In 2008 local textile Artist Cresside Collette was chosen by Council’s Visual Arts Committee to exhibit in the Art Space. In 2009, local painter, printmaker and ceramicist Philip Davey exhibited in the Art Space and in 2010, local photojournalist June Orford was granted an exhibition in the Art Space. Painter Donald Ramsay is our invited artist for 2011.

Heritage Week Exhibition - 6 September - 6 October 2012

An exhibition encompassing the rich history of the Whitehorse City Council and beyond.  This exhibition is being held as part of the Whitehorse Heritage week events.  For more information on past Heritage Week events please see the Whitehorse City Council web site.

The Sculpted World: Sculptural Work from the Whitehorse Art Collection - 11 October - 3 November 2012

Featuring work from the Deakin University and Whitehorse Art collections, this exhibition guarantees to challenge views on contemporary sculpture. Deakin University hold an annual acquisitive small sculpture award and a number of recent acquisitions will be displayed in this show along with little seen sculptural works from the Whitehorse Art collection.

One Step Further: Contemporary Art Quilts - 13 November - 15 December 2012

Another biannual exhibition of contemporary art quilts that pushes the boundaries of traditional quilt making. Organised by the Victorian Quilters Inc, this open exhibition features an incredible array of quilts by talented quiltmakers from across Australia. Witness a fascination with fabric in colour, texture, weave, sheen and stitch.
