Portraits from the Whitehorse Art Collection and by community artists.
Experience the diversity of portraits held within the Whitehorse Art Collection, from our first acquisition in 1927 to depictions of contemporary life. The star and inspiration for this exhibition is Frederick McCubbin’s depiction of his wife Annie, painted in 1908. Annie frequently sat as one of McCubbin’s figures in the landscape, yet we see her portrayed here in a formal studio portrait.
Also contributing to this celebration of portraits are local artists from Box Hill Art Group and Whitehorse Arts Association. Their inclusion marks the tradition of artists painting in the Box Hill area and provides a glimpse of the personalities that make up our community.
